Ex-frontman of Iron Maiden started his solo career few years ago. At the beginning of this year, he released his seventh solo album called Infinite Entanglement. We are talking about 52 years old singer and composer called BLAZE BAYLEY. He told us in short interview something about making new album, revealed game he is playing these days and he as well revealed us something about bucket full of crabs. “What the fuck?” is probably exactly what you asked yourself right now. Hello Blaze, you have a lot of things comings – you are currently few days before starting tour and few weeks from releasing new album. How are you spending those last days of relative rest?
On the few free days since I've had finished the mastering of the album I have spent time with my daughter, riding my motorcycle and playing Call of Duty - Black Ops 3. The rest of the time is preparing the preorders for my fans and sorting out the last few problems with the art work. I’m thinking of getting new boots for this tour.
New album is conceptual album – metal opera with sci-fi theme. Can you uncover us story of INFINITE ENTANGLEMENT?
The story of INFINITE ENTANGLEMENT is about someone who does not know if he is human. This is the first of 3 albums based on a book I am writing. The book will come out with the third album.
Story is one thing, but what about musical part of new album? How could you describe new album?
Musically, I have taken a step back towards my first two solo albums - Silicon Messiah and Tenth Dimension. Those albums were science-fiction based lyrically. The music on this album has a lot of guitar melodies and excellent memorable solos and riffs done by award winning guitarist Chris Appleton.
It is a lot of work to make conceptual album. Where do you get necessary inspiration for writing music?
New discoveries and developments in physics and cosmology have inspired me to start writing the book and the trilogy of albums.
We mentioned tour you are starting at the end of January. What can we expect on tour? Are you planning something special?
I hope to be doing a lot of my new songs live. After every show I will try to be available for photos and signing. My fans make my shows special, not me.
You are playing in our country as well and as I know, it isn´t first time you are playing in Banská Bystrica specifically. What are your memories from last time you´ve been here?
I loved it there but I drank too much. I won't be drinking on this tour! LOL.
There are already plans for recording DVD at HUSKVARNA ROCK & ART WEEKEND. How were you choosing venue that would have honor of filming DVD?
I have been a guest at Huskvarna Rock and Art and the promoters of the event had the idea to make my next DVD there. It is a very intimate weekend. I wanted to do something different and combing my concert and a tattoo event seems like a very interesting idea.
You played a lot of concerts, there were ones in small clubs and ones in full stadiums. What kind of concerts do you prefer?
I like big festivals because it is a lot of fun being on the big stage and meeting a lot of other bands.
My own small headline shows are the most important to me. To share with my fans the feeling of my songs and my music so close up is very important to me.
What is your experience with “crazy fans”? Is there anything so weird it stayed in your memory as most extreme?
One of my fans bought a bucket of live crabs to the gig as a gift. Another fan on the same tour wanted to swap shoes with me. Many fans buy sock for me because they know I always run out of clean socks on tour.
There are not only tours and recording albums. There are also times of peace. What are your hobbies when you need brake from music?
When I'm not working I like to visit family and friends, to ride my motorcycle and play video games.
