ROZHOVORY

It is year 2012 and there is new hard rock star growing up in Australia. Three years later, band is growing up, they are releasing new album called “Revolución” and name The Dead Daisies is becoming is becoming the one to count. New album as well as band itself was introduced us by bass player of the band – Marco Mendoza.

You released and are releasing new album Revolución. How can you describe the album for people who hadn´t hear it?

We all grew up in 70s and love music from 70s and 80s and Revolución is mixing all it up. It is combining music we love and fun we have doing it. It is getting also pretty good response as it was already released in Europe in June. We toured Europe with Kiss and people love it so I think it came out pretty great.

You are already getting tons of reviews from whole Europe and it is going pretty well. How much do you care about reviews you get?

Well, you know. It´s always good to hear that someone likes your album, likes music you do. Sadly you never can satisfy everybody. On the other hand, journalists are people who we need. It´s them who tell people what is good and on the other hand it is us who are giving them their jobs. So to response your question, we need them and they need us. It´s all like that.

You spent 3 weeks only in studio. Are there no regrets that you didn´t spent more time on making album?

That´s actually a good question. I was a little scared but we are all professionals and studio engineers are great people. I think in the end, record sounds great and people love it so it came out pretty well.

Even before you could call The Dead Daisies “All-Star Band”, now when you introduced Brian Tichy and John Corabi to band it is much clearer. How do you like to work with all those great musicians?

I don´t like this all-star concept but I got to admit we all are musicians with name and it makes things easier, because when you start doing something, you have to pass some mistakes and we all been there when we made mistakes. Now we all are musicians who know how to do it, who know what to do and it makes it easier to work because everyone knows what to do and how to do it.

You´ve been in many bands before, you are well known from playing with Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake. How do you perceive The Dead Daisies as a band? Are they your priority?

Yes, totally. Dead Daisies are No.1 priority now. I mean, I´ve been playing in a lot of bands, I´ve been in Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, I´ve been playing with Ted Nugent, but Dead Daisies are my No.1 priority now. There is as well my solo career which is No.2 priority, but Dead Daisies are on top. I am working on many projects, a lot of things is going on but I want this to be my number one.

Where do you get your inspiration to make music?

You can get all inspiration you need in life, in conversations you have, in music you hear or situations you get into or people you spoke with. Life is inspiring you the best way and you can get all inspiration you need from life you are living.

You are in music business for pretty long time, actually it´s already been 25 years, how you perceive all changes that are happening in music business and in rock music as well?

Main thing is there are no big labels any more. You got to work on your own and make everything happen. But you have to accept changes and you have to live with them. There was a big cause around Napster, some people were fighting against it but finally, you got to accept it. You have to work with it as much as you can. Other thing that I see is that there are no more that many hard workers. In times when I started, you got to work hard on perfecting instrument you play. You got to be perfect in playing drums, you got to be perfect in playing guitar, you got to work hard to be perfect on piano, you got to be perfect on bass. Nowadays it´s the way that you could open your laptop and make music. I don´t say it is bad thing, but you don´t have as big competition in live musicians as it was before. On the other hand, I don´t say that there are no great young bands out there. There is a lot of them but it is still your generation, it is people younger than you who have to be new Kiss, who have to be big out there.

You mentioned some new musicians, some young bands. Do you listen to some new music, some music of the young bands? Something you can recommend to our readers and your fans?

No, sadly, I have no time lately. Last year was so hectic. We were doing new album, we were touring a lot and I was working on many projects, I even worked on album of Dolores O'Riordan from Cranberries. So I don´t have time to listen to any music. We are playing on festivals and we want to see some bands and hear some music but we already got to be somewhere else, so sadly no. I listen to radio time to time when I am at home but I got to admit, it is pop music that is on in our home so I am somehow cut off the music right now. I really want to get back and I have to, but it takes time, you know.

As you mentioned, you are touring pretty much … how do you like playing with actual line-up? Is it already final?

I hope so. It is working great and we have energy that is needed. We all have our work and other bands but somehow we are all having time and space to work on Dead Daisies, to tour and everything. We are having fun and it´s very important to enjoy what you do. So I think this is final line-up.

As you mentioned, you have pretty little free time. How do you like to spend it?

Well, I just returned from tour with Kiss and so I am spending time with my kids. They have surfing camp and skate camp and I we live pretty close to beach so I am going to beach on bike, I love to fish, hunt, I am working out, keeping myself in shape, you know, but it´s always my little ones who I spend most time with. We are planning vacation on Hawaii after US tour with Whitesnake but we´ll see how it goes.

I´ve seen a lot of competitions you are offering to your fans, lately it was trip to Mexico. Who is coming with this concept, with ideas to do this?

Yeah, trip to Mexico was great. As we released single “Mexico” it was great idea to start competition to win trip to Mexico. Damn, even I would enter the contest if I could. But I have to say it was our management who came with idea. We have some media workers and they come with idea and it is worth it. People want to win this trip and they listen to music that stands behind this competition, they read our story. And I have to say it pays off. And again, it was great idea and even I would want to win this if I could.
