One of the most unusual bands in the current metal scene opened the door for us and we accepted the invitation. To give us said - keyboardist Falk Maria Schlegel rebounded from the recording and answer a few prying questions ...

I want to look a bit deeper to history of Powerwolf. How was born idea of one of the most original bands nowadays?

One night Charles Greywolf had a vsion of archangel Gabriel: Gabriel said: “Form a Metal Band and call it Powerwolf ”! So it shall be done, ha, ha. No, really. I don’t know. I think it was fate!! There were five wolfmaniacs with the same vision of Heavy Metal and so Powerwolf was born.

From its beginnings, you gain a lot of success. Song “Raise your fist, Evangelist” was nominated for “Metal Hammer Awards 2010” as “Metal Anthem 2010”. Why do you think you gain all this success?

I think this is a questions for our fans: They decided if they like it or not. We only can do our very best and work for it. But of course it is an honour for getting nominated by the most popular Heavy Metal Magazin in Germany.

According to notes on your page, new album will continue where “Bible of the Beast” ends. Does this mean that album will be conceptual?

More or less.  I don’t want to reveal too much in this working process of the CD. When you are working on a new album many things will happen you’ll never know. Like a wolf you never catch. 

May you introduce us story of new album and its connection with “Bible of the Beast” story?

There is no connection to the lyrical concept of “Bible of the Beast”. The new album deals with martyrs and saints. 

Is there any news about new album such as its name, release date or its cover?

The album will be released in Summer 2011 and we gonna play new stuff for example on the Summerbreeze or Metalcamp Open Air. So our record company will inform you as soon as possible about the release date and the album title, ha, ha. 

Could you tell us more about new album´s musical aspect? 

This is our fourth album now. As you can imagine, a band is always in a process. Everybody is developing for himself and will be influenced by other bands, books, lyrics and at least by the other band members. But you can say, that we have found our own Powerwolf style. Everybody in the band knows his part and is completely in the songwrting process. 

What is inspiration for you?

Almost everything. You are listen to a song or you see a movie, read in the bible or what else. It has an affect on your subconscious. It is a kind of determinism. You cannot blank out your environment. Your influences you can only see in the retrospective view. 

Recording of choir took place at Deutschherrenkapelle in Saarbrücken. Who is father of this idea? Why you choose this exact chapel?

This is one of the oldest chapels in the southwest of Germany. I was been there for a choir concert. I was really impressed by the building, the sound, the atmosphere and the history. I couldn’t enjoy the concert on this evening. I only had the vision to record the choir in this building. We did something similar at the “Lupus dei” album. To rent this chapel was quite a hard struggle as you can imagine. “A Heavy Metal band recording in a church”. But we managed it and we are quite happy with the result: Almost 35 singers celebrated the recording.

Themes of songs are mostly antireligious but when I look on “Raise Your Fist, Evangelist” it seems totally different. Can you describe us relationship between Powerwolf and religion?

Powerwolf is not a preaching band. Everybody of us is very religious and spiritual but in very different ways. I don’t want to go in further details. But the relationship between Metal and Religion isn’t so far: Look at all the Metal maniacs over the world: Metal is more than music, it is a lifestyle, no, it is much more: Metal is Relgion!! 

You always wear black & white make up on live performances. What makes you to do this decision such uncommon for power metal bands?

I think, this masquerade is not only allowed for Black Metal Bands, haha. So there are no boundaries. The visual effect is pretty much important as the musical aspect for us. But you need both: A good album and good live appearance. 

But you are right, we are one of the first band, that is using such a style as Heavy Metal Band.

You are well known for your great live performances. Can we expect some special shows on tour promoting new album?

Yes of course. That’s the best thing to do: Performing live and hang around with our fans. We are always improving our show with special light effects, fire or new decoration stuff. So watch out!

Would this be headline tour or are you going to play as support band for some famous band?

Both!! There is already something confirmed. But we aren’t allowed to reveal it yet. But there will be a tour!!

Is there any possibility that upcoming tour will hit Slovakia as well?

We hope so. Our booking agency is working on it.

What are plans of Powerwolf for future?

The same as ever. Go on tour, play good shows with our fans and making music!
