Ups and downs.  This is how we can describe music career of German trash metal trio. The band knows how to ripple the calm society and they prove that few times in past. New album of Destruction shows all mess of the world and about this and many other told us singer and bass player Schimer.

Destruction had appeared on scene for first time in mid-80´s. On your beginnings, you were defined as black metal band mostly because of your image. What bands are you inspired from?

When we were starting, there were no trash metal or black metal bands. It was mostly about heavy metal. Because of that, we wanted to be more extreme and does something new that could make us feel like we do something good. 

Trash metal was developing in time but trash and trash weren’t same. In those times, there were so-called “Bay Area band” that appeared in US and their opposite – German bands that were more brutal and orthodox. Do you think that it is not only because of bands you are inspired of but because continent or area where the band appeared as well? 

Yes. American trash metal was always a bit more melodic and more likeable in these times. German trash metal was always more brutal, harder and never so clear. So, I can say that it is important where the band had appeared. One way or another, we have had big problems to find a job. We got problems in society. I can´t speak about American trash metal. We were not orienteering about it.

It is possible to split your career to two periods. In first period, you released 6 albums but the last of ´em – Cracked Brain was totally different from albums before. This change was made because of what you current label wanted from you or was it because of current relations in band that weren’t good in this time?

I think that we could discuss about that because we split up in these times. We were musically where we don’t wanted to be and we wanted to do something different. The name Crackedi Brain was great name of this album, because we were working much harder than before and this is why we split up. This was obvious and we can see that on current commission that we split up.

After you left Destruction, you appeared in band Headhunter. Despite success the band didn’t last long and you get off music scene for a long time. Were you thinking about comeback to music scene or were you tired and sick of it all and you are trying to do something different?

With Headhunter, we recorded three albums in 90´s and in these times, heavy metal wasn’t accepted well. It was hard times and many people thought that heavy metal is dead. The last album of Headhunter was recorded in 1994 and I was thinking what to do whole next year. In 1996 I let it go and band has split up. I opened my own restaurant and in 1999 the time has come for reunion of Destruction. It was because many answers about when we come back to scene, when we come back. It was the right time.

What were you doing in those times without music?

Since time we split up to year 1999 when Destruction came back, I was running restaurant that was my source of income in these times. I owned this restaurant until 2006 when I sold it because I wanted to pay full the band.

I want to ask about albums of “Neo-Destruction” – Them Not Me, Destruction and The Least Successful Human Cannonball. Are those albums part of Destruction discography?

Well…those albums were released under name Neo-Destruction but it is totally different music, different band and, actually, the same was just label. Those albums were accepted quite controversial. In fact, we never end this whole thing but Destruction is just what we released in 80´s. It was totally different music different genre different band members and those albums have nothing in common with Destruction.

You get back to scene with new millennium and I have to say that comeback was great. It is obvious by listening All Hell Breaks Loose album. Who was initiator of this reunion?

Yeah. I was thinking about reunion and it was obvious that there is a lot of hard work to do if we want to come back with Destruction. It was hard to regain respect from other musicians and it was hard in music aspect. Thankfully we succeeded and original band established again on scene. 

Let´s talk about your new album Day of Reckoning. Its name tells us that there is something sinister in it. What kind of reckoning do you mean with its name?

Day of Reckoning is day of showdown know as Judgment day as well. In 2012 there comes stories about Apocalypse again and lyrics of this disc are like if they come from darkness because this world stands in front of decision. This album fits perfectly to those prophecies.  If we continue this path one than one day, there have to come Judgment day. This is common with its cover that is really dark and deep.

I suppose that you are author of all lyrics and I suppose that the lyrics reflect your inner feelings. Let´s introduce our readers to depths of those songs. 

Lyrics are about things that happened in this world. If normal people have opinion to see world´s problem through metal musician´s eyes, to see all what´s happened in world, what problems got people….all of that is idea of my lyrics. It is about how it is to be different, about society, wars and religion and about how all those problems are destroying the society. It is some kind of therapy for me to write all those lyrics. 

After your reunion in 2000 you got many changes on post of drummer. How is the band going with new drummer?

There weren’t as many changes. It was that way … in time of reunion, Sven Worman played with us for a one year. After him, there came Mark who played with us for 9 years. Our new drummer is from Warszaw and is highly motivated and technically best drummer in history of Destruction. Technically strong drummer is very important for trash metal band. This new man is great for Destruction. On new album, you can hear how fast, hard and brutal he is. 

You and Mike are old friend so new one has always hard to fit in the band. How is supposed to be the new member to fit in you two? 

Well, it isn’t hard. He has to accept few things and he have to know who is leader of the band. On the other way, he has a lot of space. It is very important for him to be committed, open minded to his surroundings and to cooperate with us. Cooperation is very important. New drummer has to have those natures and he have to like music. Our new member fits band quite well. He is educated, comes from Poland and he is great musician who know how to get fun. He likes travelling and … well … we can say it by way that if he is abstainer and vegetarian with short hair, he wouldn’t fit band that good J But we have him because of work and he has contract and he has to show his strengths. 

After releasing of album, there will surely be tour. Which bands would be honored to play this tour with you?

First leg of tour would be played with Overkill, Heathen and After All. After this, we play in America and there would play Destroyer 666. It is Australian band. There is nothing more agreed so we will see.

Your tour is bypassing Slovakia these years but you had opinion to play in our country in past. You have to had not best ideas about Slovak promoter that invited you to play here in 2004 ( I and a lot of Slovak fans got those bad ideas about him as well ). If anyone other invites you to play here in Slovakia, would you come?

We played here in Slovakia few times in last few years and I can´t remember any bad experiences there. We would be happy to play there in Slovakia if any promoter invites us to play in Slovakia.
