Bluesrock
isn´t common genre seen on our sites. We change it with solo album of
musician known from Motörhead and Thin Lizzy – Brian Robertson and „Diamonds
and Dirt“. All about how it was made, his band and his beginnings tells us
Brian himself...
First of all, when we look how
famous musician you are, it´s kind a big problem to find information about
your solo project. What can you tell our readers about it?
Well, on drums, we have Ian
Haugland, he is drummer for Europe. On bass is Nalley Pahlsson from Treat and
Therion. On vocals, lead singing is Leif Sundin and second vocals we have
Liny Wood – solo artist here in Sweden. And I actually play the guitar and
sing on my album.

The album is made of songs you
give on tapes to Soren. How old are those songs? When were they written?
They come of a 30 year period.
They are just taken from all the times. I got them on tapes in the bag and I
haven´t hear them all yet. It looks
like it comes on another album. There is no record company involved in this.
We, Soren and I, were doing this just for ourselves. It´ s not the target of
any label, band or whatever. It´s very much my personal thing.
Music is mostly about
feelings. Don’t you have some problems to get into feelings of the era when
these songs were written?
No. I wrote quite a lot of it
on keyboards and drums so basically what I´ve done is to take the seat of the
idea and put it together with what I wanted these days. I re-write all the
lyrics now to put it into what I am doing today, what situations I am in
today. It´s all very fresh to me.
Can you describe us album more
in detail?
It´s a blues based album.
There is continuity in the album eventhought the songs are sometimes really
different. I can´t describe it track by track cause it would take all the
night. (Laugh)
When I look on the album, I
see cover made of photography. Simple and clear. That is quite uncommon in
these times of graphics. What makes you to do this decision?
Well, it was Soren´s idea, not
mine. I wanted it just simple, you know, Diamond and Dirt. So I left it on
Soren and he takes a lot of different ideas. At last, we came with that one.

Album contains cover of “10
miles to go on 9 mile road” by Jim White. Why you choose this song? What
means music of Jim White to you?
I love Jim White, he´s totally
nuts. (Laugh) But he gets easily into this material and I am big fan of his
but thing is that I just take his riff and make it really heavy, you know. I
thought we fit it very well. I originally don’t want to do this, Soren pushed
me into it.

There is no full tour planned
for “Diamonds and Dirt”. Would you play any concerts? Is anything confirmed
yet?
It´s a bit difficult to get
this band together to tour because they play in other bands. Maybe we play
some summer festivals. We start with those and there is still possibility of
a small tour. If everybody would be available… So, nothing confirmed yet….
Is it possible that we would
hear some new material in future? Is it possible that we would see any
stabile Brian Robertson Band in future?
Well, this is Brian Robertson
Band and it is stabile… (Laugh) We aren’t more stabile only because everybody
is playing elsewhere as well. You will hear new material in future, of
course. But it would be the same band. (Laugh) In the same studio. (Laugh) That’s
stabile enough, you know.
Let´s get back to the past
times for a while. Who makes you to play guitar?
It was Peter Green from
Fleetwood Mac. He is the best of blues guitar players.
What about your beginnings?
When you actually realized that you could be a professional musician?
It´s not something you
realize. I left home with 30 pounds in my pocket, guitar and drum sticks and
went straight to London. I´ve nothing else in my mind only playing guitar.
It´s not a question of being professional. I didn´t know anything else.
Nothing than art. It just happened, you know. (Laugh)
It looks like we reach the end
of this talk. Is there anything else you want to say to you fans and our
readers?
Just thanks for having an
interest. It was nice surprise cause as I said before, we didn´t really
expect to get this much interest on this album. It´s such a personal way for
me and Soren so it´s nice that people wanna hear it.
