Dovoľte nám dnes predstaviť veľmi mladú, ale veľmi zaujímavú kapelu z Talianska, Charun. Francesco Miatto, bubeník kapely, bol trpezlivý so všetkými mojimi otázkami, na ktoré sa mu aj podarilo odpovedať.

Charun je naozaj nový projekt v svete metalovej hudby. Pokús sa predstaviť vašu kapelu našim čitateľom. Čo môžu očakávať?
Sme skupina hudobníkov, ktorí chcú znovuobjaviť korene death metalu a dať nový tvorivý život tomuto žánru, ktorý nás nadchýna desaťročia. Takže na našej strane je úplná oddanosť žánru ako takému, ale osobitný dôraz kladieme aj na melódiu.
Čo znamená Charun?
Charun bol prievozník duší v krajine, odkiaľ pochádzame. Dante Alighieri ho v Božskej komédii personifikuje ako Charona.
Vaša kapela sa zrodila priamo uprostred pandémie. Nemohli ste si nájsť náročnejší čas na založenie kapely, že áno?
Áno, bohužiaľ, pandémia sa diala práve v čase, keď sa kapela formovala a rôzne lockdowny nám vytvorili obrovské logistické problémy, čo spôsobilo oneskorenie vydania nášho prvého EP. Avšak to nám pomohlo pochopiť odhodlanie, s ktorým sa budeme venovať nášmu projektu, našej kapele.
V Taliansku to bolo naozaj zlé. Pamätám si, že vtedy som sledovala správy a naozaj ste sa trápili, bolo to jedným z najhorších miest v Európe…
Áno, bol to veľmi komplikovaný okamih pre našu krajinu, ktorý nás všetkých postavil pred skúšku, ak to tak môžem nazvať.
Mali ste nejaké špecifické prekážky pri práci na vašom prvom albume práve kvôli pandémii?
Ako si môžeš predstaviť, sme kapela starých chlapov, ktorí skladajú v skúšobni počas jamov, takže nemožnosť vidieť sa nás úplne zablokovala a bolo pekné vidieť, že naša motivácia a túžba hrať sa zvýšili spolu s hnevom a túžbou komponovať hudbu, ktorá je skutočne emotívna.
V dnešných dňoch nie je ľahké mať kapelu. Čelíme viacerým krízam. Ako sa s tým všetkým vyrovnávate?
Robíme to z vášne! Dnes už nikto v tomto hudobnom žánri nemôže očakávať zarábanie veľkých peňazí, ide proste o hranie hudby, ktorú máme radi a robíme to mimoriadne profesionálnym spôsobom. Sme kapela, ktorá skutočne žije hudbou.
Charun nie je vaša prvá kapela?
Je to tak! Pochádzam z Coram Lethe už 23 rokov, s ktorými sme vydali 5 albumov. Deimos a Simone boli tiež súčasťou kapely, no v dôsledku pandémie a iných dôvodov sme sa ocitli v kapele Charun, pretože naša túžba po death metale je nezastaviteľná a chceli sme pokračovať v sebarealizácii v tomto hudobnom žánri.
Povedz nám nejaké podrobnosti o vašom prvom albume s názvom Impending Decline.
Impending Decline je predovšetkým úprimná a prvotná práca, ktorá odráža historické obdobie, ktorým žijeme, teda nezvratný úpadok sveta. Pomysleli sme si, že to zrealizujeme prostredníctvom agresívnej a technickej hudby, ktorú máme najradšej. V štúdiu bolo všetko dokonalé a zábavné a pracovali sme v úplnej harmónii napriek obmedzenému času (všetko bolo nahraté a zmixované za 7 dní!).
Mala by som to ale skutočne nazvať albumom? Obsahuje len 5 skladieb. Je to skôr EP…
Rozhodli sme sa začať s EP, pretože sa mi vždy páčil tento formát a potom počas pandémie sme sa rozhodli, že 5 skladieb bude dosť na začatie, inak by to trvalo príliš dlho. Vzhľadom na to, že pozornosť bežného poslucháča v súčasnosti nie je veľmi vysoká, zdá sa mi, že EP je najlepší formát. Kto by chcel počúvať album s 12 skladbami? Bohužiaľ, modernosť nás vedie k veľmi nízkej pozornosti.
Aké sú vaše plány a ciele do budúcnosti?
Našim cieľom je zložiť čo najviac hudby, zabaviť sa s priateľmi a mať nezabudnuteľné koncerty! Už teraz makáme na novej hudbe, ktorá predstavuje pokrok v našom hudobnom bádaní.
S kým by ste chceli spolupracovať v budúcnosti? Aký je váš sen?
To je ťažká otázka! Osobne by som chcel absolvovať turné s niektorým z death metalových posvätných monštier.
Mám tu skutočne náročnú otázku! Hráte death metal, je to jasne počuť vo vašej hudbe. Idem sa zahrať s tvojou predstavivosťou. Ak by si mohol vytvoriť dokonalú death metalovú kapelu, vyber 5 hudobníkov, aby si vytvoril dokonalú ‚super-kapelu‘. Kto by to bol a prečo?
Ďalšia dobrá otázka! Ah ah ah, veľmi ťažké… Povedal by som Ihsahn na jednej gitare, Chuck Schuldiner na druhej gitare, Steve Asheim na bicích, Jeroen Thesseling na basgitare a Ross Dolan vokály, bolo by to fantastické!
Vráťme sa späť na Zem haha. Kto vás ovplyvnil najviac?
Kapely, ktoré nás najviac ovplyvňujú, sú kapely ako Immolation, Morbid Angel, Deicide, ale aj začiatky black metalu s Emperor a Drudkh. Každý člen kapely má rôzne vplyvy, ktoré sa snažíme spojiť a vytvoriť dôveryhodný koncept v extrémnej hudbe.

Let us introduce an interesting band from Italy, Charun. Francesco Miatto, the drummer of the band, was so kind and managed to answer all my questions.
Ciao guys, sending greetings to Italy. How are you?
HI! Here from Italy, everything is fine, thanks.
Charun is really new in the world of metal music. Try to introduce your band to our readers. What to expect?
We are a group of musicians who want to rediscover the roots of death metal and give new creative life to a genre that has thrilled us for decades. So on our part, total dedication to the genre, but also particular attention to the melody.
Charun – what does it mean?
Charun was the ferryman of Etruscan souls, the land where we come from. Dante Alighieri in the divine comedy personifies him in Charon.
You were born right in the middle of the pandemic. You couldn’t find a more challenging period of time to start a band, could you?
Yes, unfortunately the pandemic happened just as the band was forming and the various lookdowns created enormous logistical problems for us which inevitably delayed the completion of our first EP. However, this made us understand the determination with which we would tackle this project.
In Italy, it used to be really bad. I remember watching the news that time and you really struggled, it was one of the worst places in Europe…
Yes, it was a very complicated moment for our country that put all of us to the test.
Did you have any particular obstacles while working on your first album because of the pandemic?
As you can imagine, we are a band of old people who compose in the rehearsal room during jams, so the impossibility of seeing each other blocked us completely and it was nice to see that our motivation and desire to play increased together with the anger and the desire to composing music truly with feeling.
These days, it is not really easy to run a band. We are facing multiple crises and so on. How do you go through that all?
We do it out of passion! Nowadays, no one in this musical genre can expect to make money, it’s simply a matter of playing the music we like and doing it in an extremely professional way, as if we were a band that really lives with music.
Charun is not your first band, am I right?
Indeed! I come from Coram lethe for 23 years with whom I released 5 albums. Deimos and Simone were also part of the band, due to the pandemic and other reasons we found ourselves founding Charun because our desire for Death Metal is unstoppable and we wanted to continue expressing ourselves in this musical genre.
Tell us some details about your first album called Impending Decline.
Impending Decline is the first and foremost a sincere and primordial work that reflects the historical period we are living in, that is, an inexorable decline of the world. We thought of staging it through the aggressive and technical music that we like most. In the studio everything was perfect and fun and we worked in complete harmony despite the limited time (everything was recorded and mixed in 7 days!).
Should we actually call it an album? There are only 5 songs. It’s more like an EP…
We decided to start with an EP because I’ve always liked this format and then during the pandemic we decided that 5 songs would be enough to start otherwise the time would take too long. Considering that the attention span of the average listener nowadays is not very high, it seems to me that the EP is the best format. Who wants to listen to an album with 12 songs? Unfortunately, modernity is leading us towards a very low attention span.
What are your plans and goals for the future?
Our goals are to compose as much music as we can, have fun with friends and have memorable live shows! We are already composing new music which marks a step forward in our musical research.
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future? What is your dream?
What a difficult question! Personally, I would like to tour with some death metal sacred monster.
I have one really challenging question! You play death metal, it’s clearly heard in your music and also the influence on your music is really present. Let´s play with your imagination. If you could form a perfect death metal band, choose 5 musicians in order to form a perfect ´super-band´. Who would it be and why?
Another good question! Ah ah ah, very difficult… I would say Ihsahn on one guitar, Chuck Schuldiner on the other guitar, Steve Asheim on drums, Jeroen Thesseling on bass and Ross Dolan on vocals, it would be fantastic!
Let’s get back to Earth haha. Who influenced you the most?
The bands that influence us the most are bands like Immolation, Morbid Angel, Deicide, but also the early black metal of Emperor and Drudkh. Each member of the band has different influences that we try to bring together and create a credible concept in extreme music.
