Danish
band Volbeat will undoubtedly be included among the most original rock bands
of today. The combination of rock 'n' roll, punk, rockabilly or classical
metal made an original genre - metal 'n' roll. How it all started and
actually, how looks like a new album of this band? Guitarist Thomas Bredahl
tells us more…

People likes stories. Should
you tell us story about beginnings of Volbeat, about how it starts?
Volbeat started back in 2001.
Michael (vocals & guitars) had quit his old deathmetal band Dominus. He
had some ideas for a new band mixing his metal and punkrock influences the
50s rock n roll, which his parents listend to and which keept on popping up in his head. Him and Jon (drums) got
together , jammed the ideas and liked it. They decided to start a band and
called Anders (bass), who used to play in Dominus aswell. They had a few
different guitarplayers and I (Thomas, guitar) joined the band in late
2006.

What you wanted from band on
beginning? Are you doing all of this just for fun or do you want to get money
from music industry?
We where just musicloving
pople, who wanted to play some music that we felt like. Nobody in the band or in the musicbusiness
expected us to make it to where we are today. Actually Jon and Michael said
to each other back in 2001 when they jammed the ideas for the first time:
“Who the hell is gonna listen to this?” – luckily for usthe answear was: a
lot of people

After almost 10 years, you
release your 4th album. What can you tell us about it?
It’s a new Volbeat album.
Contains all the elements that defines a Volbeat album. But again we take it
to a different level. We always try to challenge ourselves and the listeners,
trying to push the boundaries of what we can do and play. It continues and
ends the story of the guitar gangster set off on the previous album. I think
this is our most random album to date and actually some of our musical
influences are more cleancut on this album than ever before, where we mixed
everythin up a little more

You invite guests such as
Mille Petrozza and Mark "Barney" Greenway on your new album. How it
was to record new album side by side with people, who’s music are you
listening when you are teenagers?
It was a great
experience. Those guys are legends and some of the nicest people Ive ever
meet. Again bringing them in challenges our songwriting and what we are
actually capaple off doing on the album. And it diffinitely challenges the
ears of some of our fans, which is always great
How goes recording? Did you
have to face any problems or it goes all great?
| |
Recording was basically 3
intense weeks of hard work. We always write and rehearse everything before we
enter the studio. So we spend the first 2 weeks laying down tracks and then
add some spices the last week
How was the new album born?
Where you get inspiration to write all new stuff?
We are inspired by almost
everything. Tons of different music, movies and generally living life
You’ve got music videos and
covers kind of comic like. Is it something like signature of the band? What
is your relation to comic books?
Like all other healthy boys we
like comic books, so why not use this when it comes to artwork and video ;)
Whole band is inspired by
Johny Cash, Elvis Presley, Metallica, etc., what do you think about new
popular music?
For me it doesn’t matter if
music is old or new as long as its good. The same goes for genres
You are famous now and you are
performing your music all over the world. Are there still countries (or some
special places) where you want to play?
Theres a lot of places we have
never been as persons and as a band…and a lot of places we would like to go –
the future will tell
You were forced to cancel
tourdate in Slovakia this year. Are you planning to add any Slovak city to
your tourplan?
Yeah, that was a shame, cause
we hate canceling shows…but health always comes first…I can promise if and
when we will be back in Slovakia. Sorry
Thank you for your time.
Anything else you want to tell to your fans?
Thank you. ..to you (reporter,
reader and fans)
