Nowadays, gothic metal is very popular genre. It has many faces. We would like to present you another one. Hungarian - Serbian band Nevergreen.

The band Nevergreen is, let´s say, quite popular in Hungary. But for those, who don´t know you here in Slovakia, please, try to introduce yourself a bit.

Nevergreen is a cultic Gothic Metal band of Hungary, we are singing in Hungarian, English, and some songs in Serbian too. Because we are a Hungarian - Serbian band from Serbia. Nevergreen is popular in Hungary, Romania - not only among Hungarian minority in Romania / Transylavania, but among Romanian public too because of English songs, well known in Serbia, Ukraine among Hungarian citizens and Nevergreen is also well known in Slovakia among Hungarian people, citizens of Slovakia. The Slovakian public in Slovakia may not hear for us yet, but we will try to fix it. We have also some popularity in world thanks to our covers Strangelove from Depeche Mode, which is released in Argentina in DM compilation. Here comes the rain again - Eurythmics, O Fortuna Carl Orrf, etc.

You have released a box set called Imperium. What´s the purpose of this release?

The purpose of all releases is to make the connection between band and public closer, so this is too. The new CD will not be a box - set, the last release of us was a box set, called Imperium, this box set contains the very first four CD s of Nevergreen, with many bonus tracks. This albums were only in Hungarian, some bonus tracks are on English and some on Serbian. After the sixth album we begin to release every album in two languages, Hungarian and English, so we have now 3 albums in English and Hungarian too - New Religion, Strong as Death, New Empire. Now comes the new CD, called Karmageddon, in Hungarian and English too, with which we want to make a breakthrought on European market, and we want to become what we really are, the leading Gothic Metal band of middle Europe / Balcan region. The quality of this new CD gives us hope to achieve that.

Are you preparing also a new studio album after the Imperium release? 

As I said, Imperium was released before a year. Now we are finishing the new studio album Karmageddon, in English and Hungarian. We believe this will be one of the best Gothic Doom CDs ever released, worldwide. You just check it, am I right?

Some time ago, you´ve done a cover song. It´s Madonna´s Frozen. Why have you decided to cover a pop singer´s song? I´ve heard many times that many metalheads like this song very much. Although it´s a pop song. According to me, there ´s something dark in that song. Do you agree? But I have to say that the cover is really good. I really like it!

There are many dark and good songs in pop music world, we just love to make it in metal version. As I said, we have more covers, Frozen is one of them, maybe the best one. From the only good album of Madonna. But that will not make us a Madonna fan. There´s a message in this covers too: rock / metal culture is marginalized by the medias, TV, Radio, etc. We want to show that some pop hits are sounds great in metal version, too. That´s why there´s no metal music in Radios, Televisions.

Nevergreen split up after the album entitled New Religion in 2004, but reunite later in 2007. What was the reason to split up and later to reunite again?

This question shows how the newspapers can make wrong information, and you can´t do anything against that. Even you, who don´t know before for the band, have heard that Nevergreen was split up. Nevergreen was never split up, we made a break after 2004, we were tired and had some personal problems, so we needed a rest. This was clearly said everywhere in media, Still they made a sensation of this and wrote that Nevergreen split up, and the people believed it. We made a declaration for the Hungarian media that we take a 2 year rest, and after we continue. And that´s the way it was, and we keep our promise. Still some papers are writing stupid information, and that´s the cause you thought we was split up.

Have you ever performed in Slovakia actually?

We had some invitations from Slovakian Hungarian festivals, but we just can´t find a term for that yet. Maybe the next summer we will, because we are well known among Slovakian Hungarian citizens. But we also want to play in Slovakian festivals for Slovakian public in English too, if there´s a chance to connect us with some fest management, we will be thankful.
