Festival South of Heaven Zbytiny IV ročník, který se odehraje v letošním roce 2025, opět přinese různé speciality pro návštěvníky, a obměnu kapel. South of Heaven festivalem velmi přátelským na naprosto suprovém místě, kdy pořadatelé VÁM každý rok přinášíme jinou porci skupin. Nejsme zaměřeni na stálé opakování jedněch a těch samých kapel z Čech i ze světa. Co nám k tomu řekli samy skupiny, si můžete přečíst v přidaných rozhovorech.
Alan – Ahoj. Jak jste se dozvěděli o našem festivale?
Alexi – Ahoj, objevil jsem ten festival, když mě kontaktovali pořadatelé, jestli si přijedeme zahrát.
Guillaume – Ahoj Alane, rád tě poznávám! Objevil jsem South Of Heaven, když nám Alex řekl, že máme naplánovaný koncert! [smích]
Aurelien – Pro mě to samé jako Guillaume, nic víc, nic míň. Když jsem se ale podíval pozorněji na internet, všiml jsem si, že South Of Heaven existuje i v Nizozemsku.
Alan – Festival South of Heaven se odehrává v lomu s naprosto fantastickou akustikou. Těšíte se?
Guillaume – Rozhodně! Je to skvělá příležitost slyšet to na vlastní uši a mít možnost vystoupit v mimořádném prostředí!
Aurelien – Stejně jako Guillaume. Doufám, že publikum bude hojné a bude si moci užít i kvalitní zvuk.
Alex – Opravdu v to doufám. Normálně máme absolvovat turné po několika festivalech… a letos nám trvá dlouho, než se všechno rozjede.
Alan – Když už jsme v lomu, hráli jste na nějakém zajímavém místě? A jaký z toho jste měli dojmy?
Guillaume – Měl jsem možnost hrát v aréně pro býčí zápasy, to byla nejtrýznivěji dlouhá soundchecking mého života! [smích] Pořád jsem v šoku z posledního turné; právě jsme se vrátili z Japonska, kde jsem debutoval s LECKS INC. Fantastický zážitek ve všech směrech!
Aurelien – Nedávno jsme hráli s Lecks Inc ve Zlíně v České republice. Bylo to 7. prosince na Zimním festivalu. Moc jsem si užil hraní na hokejovém stadionu a publikum bylo docela velké a ve velmi dobré náladě. Upřímně jsem si to užil. Co se týče vynikající atmosféry a euforie, kterou jsem v tu chvíli cítil, řekl bych, že to bylo také naše první hraní na festivalu Vagos v Portugalsku. Hellraiser v Lipsku je docela slavný svou velmi metalovou atmosférou. Ale pro mě nejzajímavější místa jsem ještě prostřednictvím Lecks Inc. nenavštívil. Ve skutečnosti jsem v říjnu 2022 zpíval v několika Zeniths ve Francii se sborem na filmovém koncertu Pán prstenů (Dvě věže). Bylo to docela působivé. Také jsem se zúčastnil programu sboru Phocéen, abych mohl zpívat barytonovou tessiturou ve stejném sboru během setkání s papežem Františkem na stadionu Stade Vélodrome v Marseille 23. září 2023. I to bylo něco. A zvláštní atmosféra tam byla opravdu působivá. Japonsko se mi samozřejmě také moc líbilo (mluvíme o jedné ze zemí, která přitahuje nejvíce mezinárodních turistů XD), i když celkově byla místa konání relativně malá.
Alexi – Seznam je dlouhý: více než 30 zemí, několik ostrovů na druhé straně světa… festivaly a dokonce i hrady. Momentálně jednáme o koncertu v tuniské poušti.
Alan – Co zajímavého na festival přivezete, krom dobré nálady a vaší hudby? Nová deska, pyrotechnika …..?
Guillaume – Přinášíme vám… Francii! [smích] Naše další album se blíží k vydání, takže tohle bude jedna z posledních příležitostí, jak si užít náš současný Electro-Indus set. Už dobylo Japonsko a zaslouží si, aby bylo nabídnuto i České republice, než skončí!
Aurelien – Oh, moc bych si přál nějaké pyrotechnické efekty Alexi? Znáš někoho ve svých kontaktech, kdo by nám mohl sehnat patent, povolení, nebo dokonce tyto efekty provést sám, jako to dělají Rammstein tak dobře? Něco? (Smích) Žerty stranou, ano, přinášíme nové album, tentokrát spíše v neo-metalovém stylu.
Alexi – Promiň, nic z toho… jen radost a dobrá nálada.
Alan – Na festival South of Heaven jedete jen na otočku, nebo je součástí letního tour?
Guillaume – Momentálně projednáváme několik zastávek s jednou kapelou. Rádi bychom spolu odehráli pár velkých koncertů, abychom co nejlépe využili čas, který strávíme na této straně Evropy!
Alex – Nabídky jsme dostali už před měsíci… chvíli trvá, než všechno do sebe zapadne. Letos je všechno velmi komplikované. Mnoho zrušených koncertů, festivalů a dokonce i arén, chybějící rozpočty, kapely ruší… Rok 2025 je těžký s inflací a válkou. Co se týče letošního léta, začíná nám docházet čas na organizaci, zbývá 5 týdnů… stále čekáme na trasu a oficiální oznámení.
Alan – Sledujete náš festival delší dobu? Pokud ano, jak dlouho, a co vás na něm nejvíce zaujalo?
Guillaume – South Of Heaven jsem objevil až letos, samotné místo vypadá naprosto šíleně a atmosféra je velmi vřelá. Nemůžu se dočkat, až tam budu!
Aurelien – Jak jsem už říkal, byl to Alex, kdo nám ho ukázal. Abych byl upřímný, moc jsem neviděl, jak to místo vypadá. Je mi to líto. Také je třeba říct, že jediné místo, které vidím na internetu, je South Of Heaven v Maastrichtu. Nebo je to ono? Lhali mi? (Smích)
Alex – Pouze na internetu.
Alan – Pojďme do vaší kotliny – domoviny. Jak se vám tam hraje? Jaké máte zázemí ohledně fans?
Guillaume – S… kytarou? [smích] Kromě dvou velkých festivalů Hellfest a Motocultor máme stále více regionálních festivalů, které sestavují solidní sestavy, jako je 666 Festival, který nás již přivítal, a mnoho malých/středních festů, které celý rok bojují o to, aby mohly fungovat.
Aurelien – O nic lepší než Guillaume. Řekl bych, že profil, se kterým se setkáváme na našich koncertech, je v podstatě death a black metalový z prostého důvodu, že se velmi často účastníme velkých programů a turné se skupinami, které se více orientují na tyto styly (smích?)
Alex – Publikum, které rok od roku stárne, které se dostatečně neobnovuje… Myslím, že je konec jedné éry a že hudba se bude dále vyvíjet. Myslím, že je to cyklické a že rock/metal se vrátí jinak… ale nevím, jestli do té doby budeme ještě naživu, aktivní, nebo jestli budou pro underground ještě existovat živá vystoupení se skutečným fyzickým publikem.
Alan – Obecná otázka, jak vnímáte festivaly, jaká je možnost a podmínky za jakých se na ně lze dostat a zahrát s kapelou? Máte nějakou pikantní zkušenost s podmínkami či přístupem pořadatele festivalu?
Guillaume – Festival je skutečně příležitostí setkat se a propojit se se všemi „typy“ fanoušků rocku a metalu. Je super zajímavé hrát před tak rozmanitým publikem. Pro umělce to zahrnuje být na vrcholu a být schopen podat velký výkon před publikem, které si nutně nezíská. Příležitost, kterou představuje, má vysokou cenu, a to jak v přípravě, tak ve všech krocích vedoucích k pódiu, vyžaduje to spoustu práce předem. Na druhou stranu máte organizátory, kteří se potýkají s obrovskou vlnou žádostí od kapel, což jejich výběrový úkol činí obzvláště únavným. Být naprogramován je zčásti kvůli štěstí, kontaktům, úspěchu, a proto nemusí být vždy fér pro všechny.
Alex – Myslím, že kromě kontaktů musíte také vědět, co je možné udělat, někdy to znamená ztratit ze zřetele ziskovost, aby z toho mohli profitovat všichni. Ne všechny festivaly a koncerty mají nutně stejné prostředky… ale je to také pro kapelu zviditelnění, takže se nemůžeme zbavit existence a toho, abychom se cítili známí… musíme najít zlatou střední cestu a vědět, jak do určité míry něco vrátit.
Alan – A s tím související otázka: jezdíte na nějaké festivaly jako fanoušci? Na jaké a proč?
Guillaume – Moc málo! V davu mám problém, nejsem moc vysoký a už mi to několikrát zkazilo zážitek z vystoupení! Abych řekl pravdu, když vidím pódium, myslím jen na jednu věc: „To je MOJE místo, NA PÓDIU“.
Aurelien – I když jsem jako divák měl poměrně krátké „festivalové“ období, zamiloval jsem si festival Ozora v Maďarsku (v tomto případě to byl spíše techno/trans/psyche festival). Byla to pro mě příležitost objevit scénu, kterou jsem vůbec neznal, a jaké bylo překvapení, když jsem tam dorazil, když jsem viděl prostředí a umělecké vedení (čekal jsem dva soubojové stany). Hudba byla tak neuvěřitelně chytlavá, takže jsem mohl tančit (podupávat nohama, jak se říká) celý den, aniž bych si všiml, jak plyne čas. V metalovém žánru mě získaly Metal Days ve Slovinsku, v tomto případě to bylo mnohem víc kvůli přírodnímu prostředí kolem vesnice Tolmin (ledovce, báječná řeka) než kvůli samotnému festivalu. Nicméně některé stánky byly moc hezké, třeba masážní stánek, kde mě masér zlomil vedví! (Smích)
Alex – Nemám čas, jen velmi zřídka chodím na festivali… často jsem to já, kdo festival organizuje nebo pro něj pracuje!!!
Alan – Závěrem bych se zeptal na vaše hudební vzory a co momentálně posloucháte?
Guillaume – Moje slabost je „velký, pořádný hard rock“: V autě mi pravidelně hrají CD od ADRENALINE MOB, DIO a KRASH RIDERS. A právě teď doháním zameškané, protože jsem objevil prokleté archivy a aktuální projekty pro LECKS INC: Je to celý zatracený multivesmír, který mi prostě vyskočil z hlavy! [smích]
Aurelien – Zkrátka všechny styly metalu nechávají prostor pro určitou fantazii, ať už dystopické, fantastické, magické atd… Moc se mi líbí přínos jiných nástrojů než klasického sestavení v metalových formacích (klávesy, gramofony, efekty, niněra, orchestr atd…). Moc se mi líbí symfonický metal (Nightwish, což je kapela, která mě k metalu obecně dostala), určité formy industriálního metalu (Fear Factory, což je jedna z mých nejoblíbenějších kapel), pagan (Equilibrium), progresivní (Opeth, Haken)… Mimochodem, momentálně mě nejvíc baví tyhle poslední dvě kapely.

Guillaume – Nemůžu se dočkat, až si s tebou dám půllitr! Připijme si na Soth of Heaven a na velkolepou, parádní hudbu!

The 4th edition of the South of Heaven Zbytiny festival, which will take place in 2025, will again bring various specialties for visitors and a change of bands. South of Heaven is a very friendly festival in an absolutely great place, where the organizers bring YOU a different portion of groups every year. We are not focused on constantly repeating the same bands from the Czech Republic and the world. You can read what the groups told us about it in the added interviews.
Alan – Hello. How did you find out about our festival?
Alex – Hi, I discovered the festival when I was contacted to play there ^^
Guillaume – Hi Alan, nice to meet you! I discovered South Of Heaven when Alex told us we were scheduled! [laughs]
Aurelien – The same as Guillaume for me, no more, no less. However, looking more closely on the Internet, I noticed that there was also a South of Heaven in the Netherlands.
Alan – The South of Heaven festival is in a quarry with absolutely fantastic acoustics. Are you looking forward to it?
Guillaume – Absolutely! It’s a great opportunity to hear it with our own ears and to be able to perform in an extraordinary setting!
Aurelien – Same as Guillaume too. Hoping that the public will be numerous to enjoy big quality sound too.
Alex – I really hope so. Normally, we’re supposed to do a tour of several festivals… and everything is taking a long time to get going this year.
Alan – Speaking of the quarry, did you play in any interesting places? And what were your impressions of it.
Guillaume – I had the opportunity to play in a bullfighting arena, that was the most excruciatingly long soundcheck of my life! [laughs] I’m still in shock from the last tour; we just got back from Japan, where I made my debut with LECKS INC. A fantastic experience in every way!
Aurelien – We recently played with Lecks Inc in Zlin, Czech Republic. It was on December 7th at the Winter Festival. I really enjoyed playing in a hockey stadium and the audience was quite large and in a very good mood. I honestly loved it. As for the excellent atmosphere and euphoria I felt at that moment, I would also say the first time we played at the Vagos festival in Portugal. The Hellraiser in Leipzig is quite famous in terms of its very metallic atmosphere. But the most interesting places for me have not yet been visited through Lecks Inc. In fact, I sang in a few Zeniths in France with the choir of the Lord of the Rings film concert (The Two Towers) in October 2022. It was quite impressive. I also participated in the Phocéen Choir program to be able to sing in baritone tessitura in this same choir during the meeting with Pope Francis at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille on September 23, 2023. That too was something. And the special atmosphere there was really impressive. I also loved Japan of course (we are talking about one of the countries that attracts the most internationally XD) even if the venues overall were relatively small.
Alex – The list is long: more than 30 countries, several islands on the other side of the world… festivals, and even castles. ^^
We’re currently discussing a concert in the Tunisian desert.
Alan – What interesting things will you bring to the festival, besides good mood and your music? New album, pyrotechnics …..?
Guillaume – We bring you… France! [laughs] Our next album is very close to release, so this will be one of the last opportunities to enjoy our current Electro-Indus set. It has already conquered Japan, and deserves to be offered the Czech Republic before it retires!
Aurelien – Oh, I’d love some pyrotechnic effects ^^ Alex? Do you know anyone in your contacts who could get us a patent, a permit, or even perform these effects ourselves, like Rammstein does so well? Something? (Laughs)
Joking aside, yes, we’re bringing a new album, more of a neo-metal style this time.
Alex – sorry, none of that… just joy and good humor.
Alan – Are you going to the South of Heaven festival just for a spin, or is it part of a summer tour?
Guillaume B – We have several plans currently being discussed in the area. We’d like to play a few big concerts together, just to make the most of the time we’ll be spending on this side of Europe!
Alex – We received offers months ago… but everything is taking a while to fall into place. This year, everything is very complicated. Many cancellations of concerts, festivals and even arenas, missing budgets, bands canceling… 2025 is a difficult year with inflation and war. Regarding this summer, we are starting to run out of time to organize, there are 5 weeks left… we are still waiting for the routing and official announcements.
Alan – Have you been following our festival for a long time? If so, how long, and what interested you the most about it?
Guillaume – I discovered South Of Heaven this year, the place itself looks completely crazy and the atmosphere is very warm. I can’t wait to be there!
Aurelien – As I said before, it was Alex who showed us around. To be honest, I haven’t really seen what the place looks like. I’m sorry about that. It must also be said that the only place I can see on the internet is the South of Heaven in Maastricht. Or is that the one? Have I been lied to? (Laughs)
Alex – Only on intenet.
Alan – Let’s go to your homeland. How do you play there? What is your background in terms of fans?
Guillaume – With… a guitar? [laughs] Besides the two big festivals Hellfest and Motocultor, we have more and more regional festivals that are putting together solid line-ups like the 666 Festival that has already welcomed us, and many small/medium-sized venues that fight all year long to continue to play new emerging bands.
Aurelien – No better than Guillaume. I would say that the profile we encounter at our concerts are essentially death and black metal profiles for the simple reason that we very often participate in big programs and tours with groups more oriented towards these styles (laughs?)
Alex – An audience that is aging year after year, that is not renewed enough… I think it’s the end of an era, and that music will continue to evolve. I think it’s cyclical and that Rock/metal will come back differently… but I don’t know if by then, we will still be alive, active or even if live performances with a real physical audience will still exist for the underground.
Alan – A general question, how do you perceive festivals, what are the possibilities and conditions under which you can get to them and play with a band? Do you have any spicy experience with the conditions or approach of the festival organizer?
Guillaume – The festival is really an opportunity to meet and connect with all „types“ of Rock and Metal fans. It’s super interesting to play in front of such diverse audiences. For an artist; that includes being at the top and capable of delivering a big performance in front of an audience that isn’t necessarily won over. The opportunity that it represents comes at a high price, both in the preparation and all the steps leading up to the stage, it requires a lot of work beforehand. On the other hand, you have organizers who are dealing with a huge wave of requests from bands, which makes their selection task particularly tedious. To be programmed there is a part due to luck, contacts, success, and therefore not necessarily always fair for everyone.
Alex – I think that beyond contacts, you also need to know what is possible to do, and sometimes that means losing sight of profitability so that everyone can benefit. Not all festivals and concerts necessarily have the same means… but it’s also visibility for the band, so we can’t deprive ourselves of existing and making ourselves known… we have to find a happy medium and know how to give back to a certain extent.
Alan – And a related question: do you go to any festivals as fans? Which ones and why?
Guillaume – Very little! I have trouble in the crowd, I’m not very tall and it has ruined my experience in the pit several times! To tell the truth, when I see the stage I only have one thought: „That’s MY place, ON STAGE“.
Aurelien – Even though I had a fairly short „festival“ period as an audience member, I particularly loved the Ozora festival in Hungary (even though in this case it was more of a techno/trans/psyche festival). It was an opportunity for me to discover a scene I was completely unfamiliar with, and what a surprise it was once I got there when I saw the setting and the artistic direction (I was expecting two dueling tents). The music was incredibly catchy, too, so I could dance (tap my feet, as they say) all day without noticing the time passing. In the metal genre, the Metal Days in Slovenia also won me over, but in this case it was much more for the natural setting around the village of Tolmin (glaciers, a fabulous river) than for the festival itself. That said, some of the stalls were very nice, like a massage stall where the masseur broke me in two! (Laughs)
Alex – No time, very rarely do I go to a festival… often it’s me who organizes or works for the festival!!!
Alan – Finally, I would like to ask about your musical influences and what are you currently listening to?
Guillaume – My thing is „big, kick-ass hard rock“: I have ADRENALINE MOB, DIO, and KRASH RIDERS CDs blasting in the car regularly. And right now, I’m on a major catch-up session since I discovered LECKS INC’s cursed archives and current writing projects: It’s a whole fucking multiverse that just popped into my head! [laughs]
Aurelien – In short, all styles of metal leave room for a certain imagination, whether dystopian, fantastic, magical etc… I really like the contribution of instruments other than the classic set up in metal formations (keyboards, turntables, effects, hurdy-gurdy, orchestra etc…). I really like symphonic (Nightwish which is the band that really got me into metal in general), certain forms of industrial metal (Fear Factory which is one of my favorite bands) pagan (Equilibrium), progressive (Opeth, Haken)… At the moment I’m really into these last two bands by the way.
