The pure death metal band, with very
controversial background and millions of fans worldwide, that is DEICIDE from
Florida. Their 11th album, “called To Hell with God“ will be released in few
weeks, in the second half of February. In this right moment, you have
a chance to read a special interview with the drummer of the band,
Steve Asheim. He revealed to us many special information, so enjoy it!

Your new album will be released very soon. What can we expect
musicwise?
It'll be some crazy riffs and drums and GB's vocs are pretty
sick this year so listen for that. The songs are kind of a cross between old
and new styles.
Glen revealed that the next Deicide album is to be titled “To
Hell With God“. Can you tell me something more about the title? Who did make
up this title?
Well, you know GB, he hates god. I think it's pretty
self-explanitory. The rest of the record's lyrics should be equally
hate-filled.
Are you preparing also a new video? Could you tell me
something more about it?
Not sure about a vid, I haven´t heard much about it but
we'll see.
Is there anything special connected with the album release?
Surprises for fans perhaps?
You mean as far as packaging goes? I´m not sure, labels look for
a way to make releases special somehow so I´m sure they'll be up to
something. It'll be cool to see what it is.
You have been playing in/with Deicide since the very beginning.
And it´s like 23 years now. What does Deicide as a band mean for you
personally?
The band is many things to me. It's my work and my play, my fun
and my frustration. It's my job and my identity with the good and bad that it
brings. Bottom line it's pretty cool.
You joined the band when you were about 17-year-old young boy.
Am I correct? Where can you see the biggest change in your attitude
towards Deicide? What has changed in your perception?
That's the funny thing, not a whole lot has changed. Yeah some
band members but aside from that, like you say my perception of my band in
the scene and what I have to do to survive in it, nothing has changed. I
still have to write and record material and tour for it about every two
years. You do that enough times and 20 years goes by. Hopefully I can keep
doing it and another 20 years will go by.
What do you consider as the best and the worst moments in the
history of the band?
HeHe! Best and worst moments? There's too many to name. But
I can say that generally our successes like putting out a good record
and doing good gigs and tours are our best moments. On the flip side putting
out mediocre records and gig cancellations are the worst moments. Obviously.
Actually, why did you decide to play, to do death metal music?
It suited me, I liked it and still do. It's a challenge and it's
fun.
Concerning your music, lyrics, themes and so on. What´s your
opinion on satanism and christianity?
Eh, honestly I try not to think about it too much. I´ve got
other stuff to think about. But those topics usually pop up here and there.
I don´t know, I don´t wanna knock anyone elses beliefs or whatever,
I try to have respect for all men no matter their race, creed, blahblahblah
but I personally think it's all a big fucking waste of time and effort.
Doesn´t mean I do t think about it because I do, I just don´t worship
anything.

Generally speaking, European metal music is slightly different
than American metal music. Actually, according to you, what or where is the
biggest difference between European metal music and the American one? Do you
like the European metal scene? Do you have some favourite bands from Europe?
There's metal coming out of so many places now it'll be cool to
hear the middle eastern metal and the antarctic metal that's coming. Look at
it from an alien point of view, it's all earth metal! I think the coolest
thing is listening all the guys from different countries doing brutal vox,
you can still hear the dialects a little.
You played here in Slovakia some time ago. Do you like our
country?
Yeah we've been heading out east a lot lately so I hope to be
back there very soon. I know you guys love your metal out there!
Is there anything you´d like to tell to your Slovakian fans?
Thanks for all the fan support over the years and I hope to be
back very soon.
Thank you very much for you time and for this interview! Good
luck with your new album!
Thank you!
