Chystáte sa prečítať si jeden z najkrajších rozhovorov, aké som kedy mala. Odd Crew, úžasná kapela zo Sofie v Bulharsku, súhlasila s rozhovorom a našli si dosť času na zodpovedanie všetkých mojich otázok. Nemusela som sa ich vlastne ani pýtať, boli takí prirodzení a zhovorčiví, že to celé pôsobilo ako rozhovor s partiou priateľov. V nasledujúcich riadkoch sa dozviete veľa zaujímavých detailov z ich osobného života, ako vnímajú hudbu ako takú, rozoberieme aj koncertovanie a mnoho ďalších vecí. Tak poďme na to.
Odd Crew, tak rada vás vidím, teší ma, že sme sa mohli stretnúť, bližšie spoznať. Ako som už spomínala, zamilovala som sa do vašej hudby, preto som sa rozhodla urobiť všetko, čo môžem, aby som vás podporila. Preto je aj tento rozhovor. Takže chalani, ako sa máte?
Máme sa dobre, ďakujeme.
Chalani, ako by sme vás dostali na Slovensko? Kontaktovala som aj pár ľudí, chcela som, aby ste si zahrali na turné s Tarjou, pretože tu mala tri koncerty. Ale nevyšlo to tak, ako som dúfala. Čo s tým? Ako to spraviť?
Ani my to nevieme. Musíme urobiť európske turné. Už sme ho dlho nerobili. Cestovať okolo Európy na mesiac. Zvyčajne je to pár koncertov. Potom sa vrátite naspäť. Takže je na čase, aby sme si urobili turné. Eurotrip. Možno by bolo dobré vybrať si nejaké miesto.
Dnes je to trochu zvláštne, keď ide o koncerty, najmä u nás. Napríklad pred pár mesiacmi tu mali bývalí členovia Megadeth koncert. A viete čo? Prišlo asi 100 ľudí. Je to naozaj smutné.
Je to realita dnešného sveta. Podľa mňa, je to hlavne kvôli internetu. Všetci sú takí zahltení. Celá hudba je tam. Videa sú tam. Všetko zo zákulisia je tam. Ľudia sú nabažení. A nemajú pocit, že by chceli ísť na konkrétny koncert.
Možno je tento úzky kontakt medzi ľuďmi. sú oveľa viac stratení v tomto desaťročí. Sedíme pred obrazovkou. Každý deň, stále sme pred obrazovkami. Volám to syndróm palca – scrollovanie. Najkrajšia vec je rozprávať sa navzájom, tvárou v tvár. Platí to pre každé umenie.
Je to tak aj v Bulharsku?
Určite. Veľké hviezdy, povedzme Bryan Adams alebo Rod Stewart alebo ktokoľvek. Ak prídu, naplnia arénu.
Poviem vám prečo. Pretože vždy hovoria, že je to ich ‚posledné vystúpenie‘.
Presne tak. Môže to byť skutočne posledné.
Je to vtipné. Prečo to Rolling Stones nerobia? Urobili to v roku 1995.
Mám lístky na koncert Rod Stewart v decembri, ja a moja žena. Hovoríme si: ‚Držme si palce, aby vydržal do decembra.‘
Presne tak. Počula som tieto fámy o koncerte Ozzy Osbourne. Posledné vystúpenie Black Sabbath. Bolo vypredané za pár minút. Nikto nevie, či sa to vlastne uskutoční. Srandujem, bude to, jasné.
Je to ako rodinné stretnutie. Urobíte jedno vystúpenie. Lístky idú na dračku. Ako si asi počula, všetky hotely sú predražené o 700 %. Urobíte posledné vystúpenie.
Nie je to prepojené s politickou situáciou? Nechcem to nazvať krízou. Je to dosť ťažké. V časoch, v ktorých žijeme. Veľa sa toho deje naraz.
Je to šialené. Nikdy neviete, čo sa stane zajtra. Čo Covid urobil celej scéne. A celej kultúre. Teraz zas všetci hovoríme o vojne. A čo sa stane s Ukrajinou. Kto vie, čo príde zajtra. Dnes je tak ľahké manipulovať ľuďmi cez internet. Falošné správy a všetko ostatné. Len čakať na ďalšiu šialenú vec, čo sa stane. Myslím, že možno sa ľudia menia. Viem, že každou dobou sme rovnakí. Ale myslím rôzne spôsoby myslenia. Spôsob, akým hovoríme, vedieme rozhovory a všetko. Takže ľudia sú iní. Nepotrebujú veľa vecí, ktoré si myslím, že rozhodne potrebujeme. Najľudskejšie veci, ktoré potrebujeme.
Preto máme hudbu.
Umenie vo všeobecnosti, je to najuniverzálnejšia komunikácia. Môžete nepoznať jazyk a nerozumieť slovám, ale hudbu pochopíte. Môže to byť moment, kedy sa vzdialite od všetkého a nemyslíte na to najhoršie.
Je tu tento problém, o ktorom hovoríme. Kvôli celkovému internetovému prepojeniu. Každý má prístup k niekomu inému. Ľudia sú tak ďaleko od seba. Všetky nástroje dostupné na počítači kazia celé umenie. Každý od vás očakáva dokonalosť. Každý očakáva, že vydáte video pre každú pieseň. Musíte byť online 24 hodín denne. Žiť na Facebooku, Youtube. Je to vyčerpávajúce. Keď si to vezmete, všetci ľudia na internete sú tí, čo robia menej umenia. Všetci investujú energiu len do toho, aby boli online. Nie za nástrojom, alebo pri plátne. Odráža to celé umenie.
Keď sa ľudia menia, hudba, všetko umenie sa mení. Môj názor je, že dnešná hudba nie je pre mňa. Sú tu niektoré veci, ktoré sa mi páčia, ale nie je to to isté. Viem, keď starneme, každý hovorí o rozdieloch v generáciách, ale nie je to tak. Keď máte nejaké skúsenosti vo svete hudby ako fanúšik hudby, môžete si všimnúť, že je to iné. Ľudia sú iní. Umenie je iné. V mojom umení to nie je takto dobre.
Zaujímavým bodom je, keď mladý chalan začne hrať hudbu a počúvať nových umelcov. Hneď ako začne hrať, začína sa vracať k starým kapelám, ktoré ukazujú skutočnú hudbu.
Čo hovoríme v kapele, vnímame koniec éry. Nebude už žiadny Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin ani Metallica. Všetci veľkí umelci budú raz väčší. Nezískajú si ale scénu tak, ako to robili staré kapely. Väčšina veľkých hviezd už nebude kapelami. Bude to jeden človek s mikrofónom. A hviezdy z reality šou. Poviem ti jeden príbeh, čo sa mi stal pred pár týždňami. Vlastním nahrávacie štúdio a produkujem iných umelcov. Prišiel za mnou chlap. Pýtal sa, či si môže prenajať štúdio na vypočutie masterov niektorých piesní. Povedal som áno, príď. Priniesol štyri albumy, ktoré nahral minulý rok. To znamená, že každé tri mesiace nahral album, 10 až 12 piesní. Urobil to všetko sám. Vo svojej spálni. Čo počítač, čo laptop dneska dokáže, urobiť hudbu. Bol to ale absolútny odpad. No, je to pieseň. Je tam riff, nejaké vokály, vlastne celkom dobre zmixované, celkom dobre zmasterované pre ten žáner. Problém je, že môžete počuť, že všetko je ako midi bubny, midi basy, niektoré nahrané gitary, AI hlasy, čo je moja obľúbená vec dnes. Mám umelcov, ktorí sa ma pýtajú, či som skúšal písať texty s AI. V žiadnom prípade. Keď mám niečo povedať, musí to vychádzať zo srdca. Keď máte problémy s textami, pozerajte filmy, čítajte knihy, pozerajte maľby, choďte do divadla a získate inšpiráciu. Nie mať počítač, ktorý vám povie, aby ste to skúšali takto. Svet je iný.
Je to spojené s touto generáciou. Viete čo, keď sa pýtam mladých ľudí, aká je vaša obľúbená pieseň, niekedy ani nepoznajú meno umelca. Volám to nedostatok vášne.
Povedzme, že sa pýtate, na ktorú kapelu čakáte najviac, aby vydala album. Nie je žiadna odpoveď.
Musíte stráviť roky za nástrojom, aby ste ho zdokonalili. Dnes len potrebujete program a máte pieseň. To je ten problém. Vášeň je byť za svojim nástrojom, bojovať s ním, naučiť sa, ako to robiť. To isté je s písaním. Keď ho začnete nenávidieť, potom sa ho začnete učiť. Musíte sa naštvať na nástroj, pretože naň neviete hrať.
Možno aj robiť chyby. Je úžasné spievať spolu s hudobníkom a on alebo ona si pomýli text. Poviete si, áno, je to naživo.
Ver mi. Viem. Robíš chyby, učíš sa. Inak sa to nedá. Najväčšia vec je robiť chyby. Potom viete, čo opraviť. A ako byť lepší. Dnes sa zdá, že nikto nerobí chyby, pretože to za nich robia počítače. Nepotrebujete sa učiť matematiku, pretože používate počítač. Nepotrebujete sa učiť, ako správne písať. Pretože je tu automatická korekcia. Vidíš to. Všetko toto vidíme na sociálnych médiách. To je problém. Prichádza generácia bez vášne. To je problém.
To možno vidieť aj na ľuďoch. Veľa našich kamarátov má dnes deti, a po dvoch rokoch sa rozídu. Neboli si jeden pre druhého kompatibilní. To sa volá oddanosť.
Musíš sa venovať vzťahu. Byť tam so svojou manželkou, s nástrojom, so svojou prácou, so svojím zamestnaním. To sa volá oddanosť. To nám teraz chýba.
Veľa sme sa snažili pomôcť mladým kapelám. Videli sme v nich veľký potenciál. Dostávali sme ale odpovede typu: Nemôžem dnes večer hrať, musím byť so svojou frajerkou. Ona nechce, aby som hral. Tak to zabal…
Dnes nemôžem ísť do práce. Potrebujem kúpiť nejaký chlieb. Haha.
Chcela by som sa spýtať na najnovší album. Videla som a čítala úžasné reakcie od vašich poslucháčov, vašich fanúšikov. prečítam vám niektoré komentáre. Napríklad, „Dám si to na svadbu.“ Skvelá práca. Dobrá variácia riffov. Výborný spev. Naozaj si túto kapelu užívam. Dáva mi ten starý zvuk 90-tych rokov. Dobrá práca, chlapci. Fantastické reakcie. Ako sa vám to počúva?
Skvelo. Je to perfektné. Pre mňa je najväčším komplimentom, že máme zvuk 90-tych rokov. Milovali sme 80-ky a 90-ky. Nielen rock a metal. Milovali sme všetky hudobné videá, popové skladby. Ako tínedžeri sme ich nenávideli. Lebo sme boli takí, vieš, rock and roll. Nenávideli sme pop. Teraz sa modlím, aby nový pop bol taký dobrý ako ten starý.
Nečakáme, že sa staneme veľkou kapelou. Myslím, že už viac nebudú veľké kapely. Je čoraz ťažšie hrať. Všetci promotéri sledujú vaše lajky, odberateľov a zobrazenia. Nikto neuvažuje o tom, že by pozvali kapelu na dobré vystúpenie. Nie. Chcú len viac lístkov. Je ťažké byť dnes hudobník. Ťažké neustále robiť hudbu a byť na sociálnych médiách nonstop. Lepšie je začať ako mladá generácia. Vybudovať si fanúšikovskú základňu a potom začať skladať hudbu. Haha.
Chcem, aby si vedela, že minulý rok prišli na koncert traja chlapi a povedali, že sme im zachránili životy. Chystal som sa to zabalit, povedal. Vaša hudba ma zachránila. To je najúžasnejšia vec, ktorú môžete počuť.
Obzvlášť to, čo hudba rozhodne dokáže. Počuli sme to už nespočetnekrát. Ľudia sa rozhodli spáchať samovraždu a hudba ich zachránila.
Hudba je najväčšie umenie. Mám rád všetko. Je to najprirodzenejšie. Ešte pred slovami bola hudba. Rytmus. Kričanie.
Dark Matters part 4. Bude to posledná časť?
Koniec jednej éry. Koniec. Cítime to tak. To bude asi koniec albumu Dark Matters. Začali sme ho ako jeden album. Potom boli dva. Potom tri. Potom štyri. Povedali sme, stačilo.
Nebolo to rozhodnuté vopred?
Uvažovali sme o dvoj albume. To bola hlavná myšlienka. Mali sme viac ako 200 nápadov na piesne. Mali sme veľa času. Všetko bolo uzavreté. Nemali sme už nič iné na práci. Štvrtý album bude koniec Dark Matters. Budeme rozmýšľať, kam ísť ďalej. Potrebujeme vytvoriť nové výrazy. Väčšina piesní bola napísaná pred dvoma alebo troma rokmi, alebo v rovnakom období. Myslím, že všetci máme hlad po niečom novom.
Možno bulharskí Backstreet Boys…

Rada by som počula aj akustickú verziu.
Môžeme to skúsiť.
Rozmýšľal som aj o Riders on the Storm. Ale povedzme si, že to môžeme urobiť.
Áno, Dark Matters 4 bude jeho posledná časť.
Po toľkých rokoch, podľa toho, čo viem, ste nemali žiadne zmeny v zostave. Čo je kľúčom k tejto trvácnosti? Vyzerá to, že ste skutoční priatelia. Ste ako rodina.
Volá sa to oddanosť. Kľúčová vec je, že sme vyrastali spolu. Nerozdelili sme sa. Neviem, či existuje nejaký recept na to. Stačí sa pozrieť na svet a uvedomiť si, že je lepšie sa s niekým podeliť o niečo ako byť sám. Na to je rodina. Myslím, že sme vždy žartovali, že keď sme si neskôr v živote našli frajerky, je to ako to, čo som povedal svojej partnerke: už mám tri manželstvá. Musíš na to myslieť, ak sa chceš, aby to fungovalo. Musíš to mať na pamäti. Oni boli v mojom živote dávno predtým, než som ťa stretol. Zamysli sa nad tým. Musíš sa s týmito ľuďmi aj zžiť. Naučiť sa komunikovať, aj keď sa ti s nimi možno nepáči. Myslím, že to je kľúč ku každému vzťahu, aj ak je pracovný. Musíš vedieť, prečo to robíš. Musíš pozerať dopredu a predstavovať si, čo ťa čaká, lebo ak sa zameriavaš len na súčasnosť, pravdepodobne budeš sklamaná, pretože nie všetko je len o dobrých časoch. Je veľa zlých chvíľ, ale aj keď ich je viac ako tých dobrých, dobré časy ti odplatia tie zlé.
Najlepšie je, ak svoje šťastie môžeš zdieľať s niekým ako aj akékoľvek svoje sny. Najlepšie je ich zdieľať. Keď to spravíš, si šťastnejšia. Ale nemysli si, že sa nikdy nehádame.
Koncertovanie. Zdá sa, že v poslednej dobe robíte veľa akustických vecí. Aký je možno rozdiel, pokiaľ ide o energiu počas vystúpenia? Počas bežných koncertov a tých akustických? Viete to porovnať?
Vieme si to možno aj viac užiť. Môžeme improvizovať. Napríklad z albumov Dark Matters máme teraz päť piesní, ktoré sme spravili ako „cover“ – akustické verzie. S niektorými fanúšikmi, s ktorými som sa rozprával minulý týždeň, keď sme hrali „The Moment“, mi povedali, že je to naozaj iné. Je to tá istá pieseň, ale spôsob, akým to hráme prináša inú emóciu. Je to rovnaké posolstvo, ale pocit je iný. Myslím, že je to niečo, čo je zaujímavé, aby si to ľudia vypočuli. Je to tak. Môžeme si viac užívať nástroje, pretože všetko je pokojnejšie. Počuješ každú notu. V piesňach je oveľa viac dynamiky. Akustické verzie sú oveľa, oveľa osobnejšie. Len ty a hudba, nič iné. Možno by si povedala, že je to jednoduchšie sa na to pripraviť, ale my používame ešte viac nástrojov, nie je to len ty a gitara.
Musí byť pre vás tiež zaujímavé, že ľudia sa prejavujú trochu inak.
Áno, určite. Jasne. Sú ale stále tí 3-5 fanúšikov, ktorí prídu na každý koncert a správajú sa úplne rovnako, im je jedno, či je to obyčajná šou alebo akustická. Haha. Vôbec im nezáleží na tom, čo hráme, aj keď len rozprávame, boli by OK aj s tým.
Občas to vidíš aj v očiach ľudí pred tebou, ako na poslednom koncerte, ktorý sme odohrali. Pamätáš si tú dievčinu, ktorá plakala? A videl som ešte jednu, ktorá tiež plakala, a keď sa rozprávame, aj ja plačem, keď to zažívame. Áno, je to naozaj emocionálne.
To sa tiež volá oddanosť.
Áno, určite. My to ale nazývame koncertný turizmus.
Samozrejme. Áno, myslím, že všetci máme kapely, ktoré radi počúvame, radi by sme ich videli niekoľkokrát, ak by to bolo možné, najmä keď sme boli mladší.
My naozaj chceme chodiť na veľa koncertov, ale keď ste v tomto biznise, musíš chodiť na svoje vlastné koncerty, lebo nie je čas chodiť na všetky, na ktoré by si chcela ísť. Keď si hudobník, chodíš na čoraz menej koncertov, pretože ideš iba na tie, ktoré naozaj chceš vidieť. A ľudia sa nás pýtajú, či raz niekedy pôjdeme na pivo do nejakej krčmy, a my hovoríme, že možno, že áno, ale už nechodíme do barov. Nie preto, že by sme už nemali energiu ako 18 ročný, ale preto, že väčšinu života trávime v bare, tak že do nich v voľnom čase nechodíme.
Áno, presne tak. Navyše, alkohol nie je najlepší priateľ pre kohokoľvek, kto by chcel žiť dlhšie.
No, môžeme sa trochu pohádať. Len žartujem. Nie, to vieš, nemôžeš piť celý deň, každý deň.
Takže vlastne sa už blížime ku koncu. Veľmi vám ďakujem za váš čas. Ďakujem, že ste boli takí úžasní.

You are about to read one of the nicest interviews I have ever done. Odd Crew, an amazing band from Sofia, Bulgaria, agreed on being interviewed and found enough time to answer all my questions, however, I didn’t even have to ask, they were so natural and talkative that it basically felt like talking to a bunch of friends. In the following lines, you are going to learn a lot of interesting details from their personal lives as well as music taste, the shows they like to do and many other things. So here we go.
Odd Crew, so nice to see you, nice to meet you, nice to get to know each other. It feels really good. As I said before, I fell in love with your music so much, so that’s why I decided to do whatever I can in order to try to support you and so on. So this is why this interview as well. So guys, how are you?
We are fine, thank you.
Guys, how to get you to play in Slovakia? I contacted some people. And I wanted you to play on tour with Tarja here. Because she had three shows. But it didn’t work as I was hoping for. So what to do? How to do it?
We don’t know either. We have to do a European tour. We haven’t done it for quite a while. Going all around for let’s say a month. It’s usually a couple of shows. Then we came back. So it’s about time that we have to do a round tour. Eurotrip. Maybe then it would be a good idea to pick up a venue.
Nowadays it feels sort of weird when it comes to shows, especially in our country. For example, a few months ago. The former members of Megadeth had a show here. And you know what? Like 100 people came. It feels really bad.
It’s the reality of today’s world. It’s mostly because of, in my opinion, it’s mostly because of the internet. Everyone is so full up. All the music is there. All the videos are there. Everything behind the scenes is there. So people are fed up. And they don’t express the need to go to a particular show.
Maybe the close connection between a person to person is a lot more lost this decade. We’re sitting on the screen. Every day and every time is the f*** screen. I call it the thumb syndrome. Scrolling. The most beautiful part is to talk to each other, face to face. This is how it reflects every art.
Is it the same in Bulgaria as well?
Absolutely. The big stars, let’s say Bryan Adams or Rod Stewart or whatever. If they come, they’re going to fill up an arena.
I’m going to tell you why. Because they always call the show ‘the last one’.
Exactly. It could be really the last one.
It’s funny. Why are Stones not doing this? They did it in 1995.
I have tickets for Rod Stewart in December, me and my wife. We say: ‘Let’s keep our fingers crossed he lives till December.’
Exactly. I’ve heard these rumors about Ozzy Osbourne. The last Black Sabbath performance. It was sold out within minutes. Nobody knows if it’s going to happen. Kidding, it will happen.
It’s like a family gathering. You make one show. The tickets go crazy. As you probably heard, all the hotels are 700% overpriced. You’re going to make the last show.
Isn’t it connected to the political situation? I don’t want to call it a crisis. It’s quite difficult. The times we’re living. Lots of going on.
It’s crazy. You never know what’s going to happen tomorrow. What Covid did to the whole scene. And to the whole culture. Now we’re all about the war. And what’s going to happen to Ukraine. Who knows what’s going to come tomorrow. It’s so easy nowadays to manipulate people over the internet. The fake news and everything else. Just wait for the other crazy thing to happen. I think maybe the people are different. I know every time, we are the same. But different ways of thinking. In the way we talk, have conversations and everything. So the people are different. They don’t need a lot of things that I think we definitely need. The most human things that we need.
That’s why we have music.
Art in general. The most universal communication. You may not know the language but you will understand the music. It can be the moment where you let off everything and don’t think about the worst.
There is this problem that we are talking about. Because of the whole internet connection. Everybody has access to anybody else. People are so distant from each other. All the tools available on the computer, they are messing the whole art up. Everyone expects you to be perfect. Everyone expects you to release a video for every song. You have to be online 24 hours a day. Live on facebook, Youtube. It is exhausting. When you think about it, all the people on the internet are the people who do less art. They are all invested in being online. Not behind the instrument. Behind the painting. It is reflecting all the art.
When the people are changing, the music, the whole art is changing. My opinion is that today’s music is not for me. There are some things that I like but it’s not the same. I know when you are getting older, everybody says the difference in generations but it is not. When you have some experience in the music world like a fan of the music, you can notice it is different. The people are different. The art is different. In my art, it is not so good.
The interesting point is when a young kid starts playing music and listening to new artists. As soon as he starts playing, he starts looking back to the old bands which are showing the real music.
What we say in the band, we are noticing the end of an era. There is not going to be Black Sabbath anymore, Led Zeppelin anymore. Metallica. All the big artists nowadays are going to be promoted. They are not going to earn the scene as the old bands did. Most of the big stars will not be bands. There is going to be one guy with a microphone. And reality stars. I will take a minute to tell you a story about what happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I own a recording studio and produce other artists. A guy came to me. He asked if he could rent the studio to listen to the masters of some of the songs. I said yes, come in. He brought four albums that he recorded last year. This means every three months he recorded an album, 10 to 12 songs. He did it all by himself. In his bedroom. What a computer, what a laptop nowadays can do for its music. It was absolute garbage. Well, it is a song. There is the riff, some vocals, actually pretty well mixed, pretty well mastered for the genre. The problem is you can hear that everything is like midi drums, midi bass, some recorded guitars, AI voices, which is my favorite thing nowadays. I have artists asking if I tried writing lyrics with AI. No way. If I am going to say something, it is going to come from my heart. When you are struggling for lyrics, watch movies, read books, see paintings, go to the theater and you get inspiration. Not having a computer that tells you to try it this way. So the world is different. It is very likely.
It is connected to the generation. You know what, when I ask young people, what is your favorite song, they sometimes don’t even know the name of the artist. That is the lack of passion.
Let’s say you ask which band you are waiting for the most to release an album. There is no answer.
You need to spend years behind the instrument to perfect it. Nowadays, you just need the program and then you have a song. That is the f*** up thing. The passion is to be behind your instrument, to struggle with it, to learn how to do it. It is the same with the writing process. When you start hating it, then you start learning it. You have to get angry at the instrument because you can’t play it.
Maybe even making mistakes. It is amazing To sing along With the musician and he or she messed up the lyrics. You say, yeah, it is live.
Trust me. I know. You make mistakes, you learn. Otherwise you cannot learn. The greatest thing. Is to make mistakes. Then you know what to correct. And how to be better. Nowadays nobody seems to make a mistake because the computers do it for them. You don’t need to learn math because you use a computer. You don’t need to learn how to write properly. Because there is auto correct. You see it. All this you see on social media. That is the problem. There comes a passionless generation. That is the problem. Even our generation is really f*** up. We don’t know what to do with all the utilities.
You can even see it in the people. A lot of our friends, they make a kid nowadays. Two years later, they separate. We weren’t for each other. It is called dedication. You need to dedicate yourself to investing yourself in a relationship. Be there with your wife, with your instrument, be there with your work, with your job. It is called dedication. That is what we are lacking now.

I would like to ask about the newest album. I have seen and read amazing feedback from your listeners, your fans. I can be the one to say. The feedback is amazing. I copied some comments. For example, I am going to put this on at my wedding. Great work. Good variety of riffs. Excellent singing. I really enjoy this band. Gives me that old school 90s sound. Good job guys. Fantastic feedback. How does it feel?
Great. It is perfect. For me, having this 90s sound, that is the biggest compliment. We loved the 80s and 90s. Not only rock and metal. We loved all the music videos, pop songs. We hated it when we were kids. Because we were like you know rock and roll. We hated pop. Now I pray that the new pop will be as good as the old one.
We are not expecting to become a huge band. I don’t think there are going to be any more huge bands. It is getting harder to play. All the promoters are looking at your likes, subscribers and views. Nobody is thinking they do a good show, let’s invite them. No. They just want more tickets. It is hard to be out there. It is hard to do music all the time. And be on social media all the time. We need to start like the young generation. Build a fan base and then start writing music. Haha.
To sum it up. What I want you to know is that last year, there were three guys that came to a show and said that we saved their lives. I was going to end it. Your music saved me. That is the most amazing thing you can know.
Especially what music can definitely do. We heard this so many times. People decided to commit suicide and they were saved by the music.
Music is the greatest art. I like everything. It is the most natural. Even before the words, there was music. The rhythm. The screams.
Dark Matters part four. Will it be the last one?
The end of an era. The end. At some point. It feels like that. That will be the end of the Dark Matters album. We started it as one album. Then it became two. Then three. Then four. We said stop.
It was not decided?
We were thinking of a double album. That was the main idea. We had more than 200 ideas for songs. We had a lot of time. Everything was closed. We had nothing else to do. The fourth album will be the end of Dark Matters. We will think of where to go. We need to make new expressions. Most of the songs were written two or three years ago or in the same time period. I think all of us have a new hunger for something new.
Maybe the Bulgarian Backstreet Boys..

After so many years basically as far as I know no changes in your lineup. What has been the key to longevity? It really seems that you are friends. You are like family.
It is called dedication. The key part is that we grew up together. We didn’t separate. I don’t think there is a recipe for it. You just need to look at the world and know that it is better to share it with somebody than be all to yourself. That is what families are for. I think we were always joking that when we got ourselves girlfriends later on in life it is like what I told my girlfriend I already have three marriages. You need to think of that if you want to get involved. Have it in mind. They were in my life way before I found you. Think about that. You need to also get along with those people. Learn a way even if you don’t like them you have to find a way to communicate. I think that is the key to any relationship even if it is a working one. You need to know why you are doing this. You have to look further in time and imagine what the future holds because if you are invested only in the moment right now you are probably going to be disappointed because there aren’t only good times. There are a lot of bad times but even if the bad times are more than the good ones, the good ones pay out for the bad ones in time.
The best part is you need to share your happiness with somebody or everything that you want to do. The best way is to share it. When you share it you are happier, let’s say. Don’t think that we don’t fight or whatever.
Well, touring. It seems you are doing a lot of acoustic things lately. What’s the difference maybe when it comes to the energy itself? During the normal shows and the acoustic one?
We can jam more. We can improvise. It’s in a different direction.
For example, from Dark Matters albums, now we have five songs that we made ‘covers’ – acoustic versions of it. Some fans I was talking to last week when we played The Moment they told me it’s really different. It’s the same song but the way the band goes is really different. It’s the same message but the feeling is different. This is something I think is interesting for the people to hear it. It’s like. We can enjoy our instruments, maybe somehow more because everything is quieter. You can hear every note. There’s a lot more dynamics in the songs. The acoustic versions are way, way more personal. Just you and the music, nothing else. You may say it’s easier to get ready for but we even use more instruments, it’s not just you and the guitar.
It must be interesting for you as well, people must behave in a slightly different way.
Yes, of course. Definitely. There are always those 3-5 fans that come to every show and behave exactly the same way, they don’t care if it’s electric or acoustic. Haha. They don’t even care what we play, even if we just talk they still would be okay.
Sometimes you can see it in the eyes of the people in front of you, like the last concert we did. You remember this girl that was crying and I saw one more that was crying and when we talk to each other, even I cry when we’re doing this. Yeah, it’s really emotional.
This is also called dedication.
Yeah, definitely. We call it concert tourism.
Of course. Yeah, well, I would say that we all have the bands that we like to, we would love to see multiple times if we could and especially when we were younger, I would say, but yeah.
Well, we really want to go to a lot of shows, but when you’re in this kind of business, you get to go to your own shows because there’s no, let’s say, time to go to every show that you want to see. When you’re a musician, you go to less and less shows because you only go to the one that you really want to see, you don’t get to, you know, people are asking us, maybe we get a drink someday at some bar and like, well, yeah, maybe you come to a show because we don’t go to bars anymore. It’s not that we’re not 18 anymore and I mean, we spend our lives in a bar, so you don’t go to them in your spare time.
Yeah, exactly. Plus alcohol is not the best friend of basically anybody who would like to live longer.
Well, we can argue a little bit. Just joking. No, it’s, you know, you can’t drink all day, every day anyway.
