ROZHOVORY

Young finnish band SANTA CRUZ recently released album called Bad Blood Rising. This was reason why we prepared few questions for their bass player Middy who give us a little peek behind the curtain. And we bring it all to you!

You are releasing new album called Bad Blood Rising. We already could hear piece of it in single Young Blood Rising. Can you introduce us the rest of the album?

It’s pretty much the good, bad, and ugly of Santa Cruz. At the same time it contains the heaviest and the softest stuff we´ve made. This time we wanted to write the songs in their own terms without shoving it into a specific mold. We took few influences from other music genres without forgetting our roots in Hard Rock. Lyric wise the album contains a bit darker subjects than our previous ones, this time the songs turned out to be more personal than ever before.

In time between ´Santa Cruz´ and current release you released few singles. One of them was 1 Direction cover Drag Me Down. Who was picking song to be covered?

We did, it was actually just an outtake of our Skydiving Without a Parachute sessions. We had a bit of extra studio time and decided to record something. We don’t necessarily see it as a single release we just putted it out.

To promote new album, you already have some tourdates planned. The thing is it is only for Scandinavia, UK and Germany. Are you planning to continue touring in 2018 in the rest of Europe?

Yes we are, thing is that we just tried to book as many shows as we could before Christmas but we’re definitely doing another European tour that includes the rest of the countries as well.

Are you planning something special on those concerts? Something that might say ´You gotta come or you´d regret it for the rest of your life´?

Well for starters it’s the first ever headline tour for us in Europe. On our previous tours we’ve been an opening act and been able to play just 40 minutes or so and now we can go on as long as we want without a pissed of tour manager shouting behind our backs hah hah...

Who would you love to have a tour with?

Well of course it would be awesome to tour with some major acts like Guns or Avenged Sevenfold but we’re not too picky either.

Speaking of touring. Do you have any habits during touring? How does your ordinary day on tour look like?

The days on the road are pretty similar to each other except the day offs wich I hate cause they are just waste of time if your bus isn’t parked next to Grand Canyon or a Great wall of China or something else worth seeing. But anyhow usually by the time you wake up you´re already at the back of the venue or at least in close proximity of it. You walk in take a quick look around at the same time trying to figure out where to get the first cup of coffee to spark up your morning. Then depending on the schedule you either soundcheck and then eat or vice versa. If I have time to “kill” (hate the expression) I either relax a bit or go and check out the surroundings of the venue on foot. When you’re on the road it’s a good chance to visit places you wouldn’t other wise probably ever go to. So make the most out of it. Then as the day turns to night it’s time to do what you came here for. Weather it’s 40 minutes or an hour and a half you leave all that you got on that stage and give the people the best show that you can. Then you got usually two choices go to a bus or a hotel, try to calm yourself down from the adrenaline caused by the show and then drown yourself to sleep. Or you can go and get shitfaced with the locals and get to know the city this time lighten by the street lights and not the sun. Both choices  are good. And of course repeat.

Many bands have their mascots, something that brings them luck, something that they need to have on road everytime. Do you have any ´magic charms´ in band?

Yes, our technician Mykkänen, without him we’re fucked.

What do you consider to be on top of your bucket list?

The sold out Wembly (stadium not arena), isn’t that on top of every bands bucket list. If not they are lying or don’t have enough faith in themselves.

Do you find yourself in old motto ´Sex, Drugs and Rock´n´Roll´?

Let’s put it like this. The world ain’t quite what it used to be but we sure know how to enjoy ourselves.

My questions are over! Thank you for your time!

Hope to see you all at some point of our ongoing Bad Blood Rising Tour.
